Info for Moscow Ballet’s Nutcracker Auditions

HBPA Students are invited to audition for the Moscow Ballet’s Nutcracker! See the parent letter below with details on this special opportunity!

Dear HBPA Parents,

We are so excited about the invitation to audition for the Moscow Ballet’s Nutcracker!  Gaston Dance Theatre (GDT) is the host studio this year and has invited us to join them for the audition.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform with a world-renowned ballet company on a Charlotte stage! However, students should be prepared for the challenge of participating in two simultaneous Nutcrackers, both this one as well as our own.  For our younger students, this is especially important. Please assess whether you think your child is ready for the rigors of this schedule and mental focus of keeping up with two sets of choreography. There is a lot of pertinent information to share so that you can make the best decision for your family if this is a commitment to consider.

The Run-Down

  • Auditions for the ballet are Tuesday, September 11th.  You MUST pre-register for the audition! (see link below)  The show is cast by a representative from the Moscow Ballet; GDT does not have any input in the casting.  Students will be broken into different age groups, given choreography, and cast. The casting will be given and rehearsals will start that same evening.  The details will be given when you register, but the time will likely 5-9pm. There is no fee to audition. If cast, there is a $50 costume fee. (We are not sure when this will be due, so be prepared to pay it on audition day.)
  • Rehearsals by the Moscow representative will be Wednesday, September 12th and Thursday, September 13th, again from 5-9pm.  We do not know if they will be called for certain times within that time frame or the whole time.
  • Once choreography is set, it will be maintained by the staff at GDT.  Because of evening schedules at various studios, rehearsals will more than likely be on Saturday afternoons.  The week of the show, there will be probably be some rehearsal on the weekdays.
  • The performances are Sunday, December 23rd. Students will arrive at approximately 9am, be fitted for their costumes and have a dress rehearsal with the company.  Then, performances are at 1pm and 7pm.

Obviously, this is a very important timeline and students should be able to attend all applicable dates.  Normally, we would encourage students to audition for the experience, but due to the unique situation of this opportunity, families should send students to audition with the expectation of accepting the role if it’s offered.  Below is the link for registration as well as some videos of choreography if the students would like to prepare. We are the Charlotte location and please print a copy to bring with you. Students MUST register to attend the audition.

All of this info will be posted on our website, as well as any updates if we get them.  We’re excited about this unique opportunity for our students. If you have any further questions, we will do our best to answer them.

Thank you,

HBPA
