Day Away at HBPA

 

A whole-day or half-day camp spent at HBPA on “school’s out” days throughout the semester. Each day will be themed with activities, crafts, games, and dance classes geared for beginners ages 11 and under. Both half and full day campers should bring lunch, a water bottle, towel, and snack (we recommend 2 for a full day or 1 for a half day). Students may bring dance shoes but they are not required. Refer to our calendar of events for dates, times, and themes. Email events@hickoryballetpa.com for questions and registration. 

Whole day: 8:00-3:00: $30  

Half day: 8:00-12:00: $20

Dates and Themes: 

September 23: Summer Camp – Have the last hurrah of summer with a summer camp themed dance day at HBPA. Do classic summer crafts and dances to the sound of sunshine!

October 21: Ghost Light – Get ready for spooky season at HBPA! Explore the myth of the theater ghost light and learn about music from The Addams Family, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Phantom of the Opera. 

November 8: STEAM day! – Explore where science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics meet as we celebrate National STEAM Day with a camp devoted to creating well rounded artists. 

November 10: Sugar Rush – Join us for a sweet time at HBPA where we will learn about a common theme in dance arts: sugar! We will dance our way through the Land of Sweets, the Whipped Cream Ballet, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

January 27: Winter Wonderland – Welcome in the new year with a day at HBPA devoted to those perfect wintry activities that usually require snow. Explore snowy ballets like The Snow Queen, and Disney’s favorite snowy musical: Frozen!

February 16: Valentines – Celebrate Valentine’s Day with us as we express our love through song and dance. Learn a little swing dancing and make valentines for the people you love!

February 17: Swan Lake – One of the most famous ballets with many adaptations, The Swan Lake is worth spending a day on! Learn dances from the ballet, and songs from The Swan Princess.

February 20: Black History Month – Trailblaizers like Misty Copeland and Ariana DeBose have changed the game of dance and musical theater for the African American community. On this day of camp, we will learn about these incredible figures and how Black Americans have shaped the arts!

March 16: Disney – Every day is a good day for Disney! In this camp we will sing and dance our way through some of Disney’s classics, try out some famous scenes, and live Hakuna Matata!

March 17: St. Patrick’s Day  – Celebrate the lore of St. Patrick’s Day and the dances that go with it as HBPA goes green for our last day camp of the school year! Learn about the legends surrounding leprechauns and rainbows, and where they appear in theater.
